Russell joined Mathews Comfort in 1999 as an apprentice, choosing to specialise in the insurance side of the business. He remained with the company, becoming a Director in 2009, taking responsibility for developing the commercial team and new business. Committed to furthering his professional development, Russell is currently studying for a Diploma CII and is looking to achieve chartered status in the future, both for himself and the company, ensuring Mathews Comfort continues to meet the insurance industry’s increasingly stringent requirements.
On a day-to day basis, Russell ensures the company’s insurance business runs smoothly, which involves looking after the largest commercial clients, leading a team of employees and overseeing broking, administration and claims. He particularly enjoys meeting clients face to face and tailoring often complex solutions to meet their specific liabilities, emphasising that Mathews Comfort operates as a partner rather than a business provider, helping clients to develop and grow through an in-depth knowledge of their business.
He describes his biggest challenge as keeping up to date with market and legislative change as the industry moves forward at a fast pace, and takes great pride in the company's ability to advise clients on new products, new wordings and latest requirements for compliance. It’s this capability that often leads to the company winning new business. With a straight-talking, no nonsense approach, Russell emphasises he is not there to please but to protect, and will always advise a client what is right for their needs.
When not working, Russell enjoys running, watching football, family life, holidaying abroad and playing golf with his young son.
